Anchorhead

Anchorhead by Michael S. Gentry is an interactive fiction (IF) / text adventure game. It's a horror-style game, loosely based on the Cthulhu mythos, and was originally released in 1998. It's won many awards, and is considered one of the best of interactive fiction games... and you can play at no cost.

Get the game from Interactive Archive [Local copy] You'll need a player; there are lots of Z-machine players available.
Alternatively, play Anchorhead online (press "Do It" to press Return and get the game moving).
